My love of lunch

It’s been the backdrop for some of my happiest and most memorable occasions!
My love for lunch started as a young girl. Growing up, my father used to regale me with hysterical stories about his weekly lunches with his buddies. As I got older and we lived apart, I’ve always done my best to get on an early flight so that my father and I could have our own lunches! Whether it was buffalo burgers at our home-town dive or high-end lunches in Manhattan, LUNCH has always been a special event for me because it was something I completely enjoyed with my Dad.

As a young woman, my love for lunch continued as I entered the workplace. I made fast friends with a colleague at my first job, and we ate almost daily together in the office cafeteria. Over time, those lunches migrated to nearby casual restaurants, and eventually to nicer restaurants with ‘real’ cloth napkins! I will never forget that first thrill of dining at a fancy restaurant in the middle of the day, a glass of chardonnay in my hand, and a confidential conversation. By then, my love for lunch was renewed and cemented!
I love the details surrounding LUNCH almost as much as lunch itself. A lunch date adds extra impetus to dress a bit more nicely from the get-go; it necessitates actually going outside and experiencing the weather, and the entire event – walking into the restaurant; running into someone you know, the happenstance of meeting a friend of a friend – it’s all helps make the day more interesting, meaningful and enjoyable.

And then of course there’s the actual LUNCH itself – the ambiance of the restaurant, the fashion (or lack thereof) of the diners, the delicious food, fun waiters, sometimes wine, and most of all, your lunch companion! From a new haircut to a whispered secret, LUNCH can be informative and sometimes full of surprises! My LUNCH conversations still range from discussing life’s most hilarious or trivial moments to some of life’s most consequential decisions… and I love them all.

And while I do enjoy a fancy lunch from time to time, any lunch of any duration and location is just great! Lunch does not need to be time consuming or expensive; it’s about time shared over a meal. A park bench or a small table at a coffee shop are all meaningful and quick ways to meet, deepen a friendship, make a new connection, and as always, add extra joy to the day.
And that’s what I think LUNCH – and hopefully this podcast – is really about – adding greater joy and fun, meaningful conversations into your day.

So – if you can – get out of the house or office, get out of your head, enjoy a change of scenery, and go out to LUNCH! But if you can’t do that today – then please have lunch with me!!!

Peace Love and Lunch – Shelley
